Cohen's Ureteral Reimplantation in the Treatment of Primary Vsicoureteral Reflux

Abstract
A total of 20 patients (38 renal units) underwent Cohen's ureteral reimplantation for the surgical correction of vesicoureteral reflux from May. 1990 to Dec, 1994. All were followed at least 4 months postoperatively. The patient under 1 year old
was in
8 cases and male were predominant as 15 cases(75%). The intial symptoms were fever, voiding disturbance (frequency and dysuria) and flank pain in the order of frequency. E. coli was most commonly isolated organism in urine culture. Based on the
international classification, the vesicoureteral reflux was graded as grade I in 5 ureters, grade II in 1, grade III in 10 and grade IV in 22.
Indications for surgery were persistent high grade reflux in 16 cases, breakthrough infection in 2, severe voiding dysfunction in 1 and patients request in 1. Vesicoureteral reflux was corrected in 35 of 38 ureters (92.1%). Persistent
vesicoureteral
reflux was noted in 1 cases where right vesicoureteral reflux was corrected but with persistent left vesicoureteral reflux (grade V), Also, one patient awaits on postoperative voding cystourethrography due to persistent urinary tract infection
postoperatively.
